Meeting Sam of Sam's Warriors Art & Autism at the Gilbert Farmers Market was extraordinary. 
I went to the Farmer's Market in the Heritage District in downtown Gilbert AZ Saturday morning hoping to take a few pictures for a blog post. What I got was meeting a talented young artist who is donating most of the proceeds from selling his work to benefit the groups, AutismSpeaks and East Valley Autism Network. His mother told me Sam is doing this because of all he and his family have gotten from being a part of these organizations. On Saturday at the Gilbert Farmers Market Sam had his cards for sale. He paints the pictures in oil or acrylic (he prefers acrylic because it drys faster) and places them on card stock. I choose flowers as the subject of my cards because I am partial to them but he paints colorful birds, lighthouses and so much more. For $2.00 each I purchased the cards with envelopes. I also enjoyed talking to this young artist and donated to a very worthy cause. (What a win-win that was!) The Western Powerline Trail from Cooper to McQueen Roads cuts a wide path of paved sidewalk, gravel and plants along the canal. One of my favorite things to do in Gilbert Arizona is walk the canal trails. Along with other southeast valley cities Gilbert has taken advantage of the canal system that has watered the area for years by improving it to use as a trail for walkers, joggers and bicyclists. Landscaping, paved sidewalks, fountains, armandas, benches, all line the route which connects the cities. When the trail crosses a busy street, there is a signal light to stop the traffic for those using the trail.

I passed the Southwest Riparian ponds and although they are dry there were the sounds of many birds in the area. I imagined them wondering when the ponds would be filled. I promised I would look into that for them.
